BIOGRAPHY

Emily Darnell was born on the spring equinox of 1982. She grew up surrounded by the
trees and lakes of northern Minnesota in a house that her father designed and built.
Her work is deeply rooted in nostalgia for that time and place.

Emily recieved her formal education at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design,
where she double-majored in Graphic Design and Illustration. She considers herslelf
to be a life-long-learner. (Which explains why she hasn't been able to settle on
a single occupation) On any given day, Emily takes the title of designer,illustrator,
artist, teacher, produce clerk and farmer.

When she's not wearing one of those hats she can be found collecting and preserving
ephemeral objects. Because she is sentimental about almost everything and everyone
she comes in contact with, Emily takes care in categorizing, cataloging and
representing mementos from her everyday life, that serve as evidence of her
experience.

Along with her interest in things that are ephemeral, Emily also studies traditional
folk skills and the fading art of handwriting analysis. The rest of her time is given
to researching sustainable living systems, dreaming up designs for gypsy caravans
and other mobile dwelling units and writing lists of things to do later.

Emily currently resides in Duluth, Minnesota. However, someday soon you may find her
touring the country in a mobile home or on a bicycle. And one day (as soon as she
gets over her wanderlust), she'll be living in a hand-built home on a small farm
somewhere in the north woods growing vegetables and keeping honeybees.
